FIRE, Too Close to Home

Last night our neighbors house accross the street from us was on fire! I still can't believe my eyes. It was so scary to see in plain sight a fire blazing bright out of a bedroom window. We were all cuddled on the sofa as a quiet night in, watching Greek on Hulu.com and all of the sudden sirens drive up our street, and then stop. That is never a good sign when emergancy vehicles don't keep driving on pass your place. I peeked through the blinds, and leaped off the sofa with Kara in my arms, said a four letter word and Andrew then grabbed his coat and shoes to go outside to find out more. I was shaking...but at the same time trying to be the "calm and collected mommy" to Kara. She of course, is too young to even understand what is going on. Andrew was making light of it and showing her the pretty lights on the trucks as we watched out the window. It was hard to get to sleep lastnight.

The family that lives in the house is ok and no injuries, the father is out of town and it was just the mom and her two kids present. Luckily all ok and they spent the night at a neighbors house. The fire started from a laptop some how. Can you believe that? This is so scary to think, for it to just start up a fire and moments later the house is all burned up with four boarded up windows!? So hard to fathem, all that from a simple laptop? Wow.

This has actually been the THIRD time that I have been through this sort of fright.

The first time, Andrew and I were living in a condo complex and the apartment directly outside from our bed room window was on fire in the middle of the night. That was back when we lived in Grover Beach, Ca.

The second time this happened, Andrew was out of town for training and I had just moved to Missouri in an apartment complex. I woke up to the sound of breaking glass, look out my bedroom window, to see the truck parked outside was on fire! I called 911, as did some other neighbors apparantly... I asked the 911 operator, what to do, if I remained in my apt or evacutate? She said to stay indoors for the time being. I was so scared being alone and in a new to the area, I didn't know any one. I was afraid the truck was going to blow up, being on fire.

Even thow Andrew was out of town, his car was there park right next to the burning truck, with one empty parking space inbetween. What the heck was I suppose to do? It was so bizzarre and all happened so fast. His GTO, car, luckily was fine and no smoke damage, and the truck was a burnt up shell of a truck on melted wheels.

So last night seeing this fire across the street from our house was all too familiar and way too close to home, once again. I am so glad everyone was fine and had a place to stay the night at, but their house is going to need rebuilding, they will have to find a temporary place to live for now in the mean time.
