I Got Snow in My Eye!

It is snowing again. I was out buying groceries tonight. The news had a weather report for a snow storm hitting our area, so people are at the grocery store stocking up on food and water. The grocery store was actually out of bandannas! I do not think I have ever gone grocery shopping and seen the produce dept. completely out of bandannas before!

As I was pushing the cart of groceries out to my car, the snow was falling at a horizontal angle. I was walking into the snow and got snow in my eye. I just saw a white, fuzzy, chunk, of snow come towards me and into my eye. It felt weird having the snow land in the corner of my eye.

Our Trip to CA PART II

I have been busy so far this 2007 new year and have neglected my blog a bit. I am back to write about the rest of our time out in California visiting family and friends. After we were in Morro Bay for a few days we drove down the coastal highway to Woodland Hills and visited with Andrew's family and friends for a few days. Here is a couple of photos of the coastal drive down to LA from Morro Bay.
We drove down to Long Beach visiting grandparents. Here we have three generations of the Hay family.
Andrew with his Grandma Thelma, and Grandma and me sitting together in the breakfast room. On her sliding glass door is a "football" crashed through the glass. The football looks real at first coming through the glass like this, but it was really just a decal. I have seen these on the back windows of cars, but as a baseball or tennis ball instead. Grandpa gave Andrew his old set of golf clubs and two bags for him to use. We started playing golf earlier in the fall, and this will help us with building two complete golf sets to play with. Grandpas golf shoes fit me, so Andrew just needs to get a pair of golf shoes now.

I gave my father-in-law a Red Cardinals shirt which reads, "World Series Champions 2006" He told us he will have to wear it proudly to one of the Dodger Games! I then (jokingly) told him he might get his Season tickets revoked, if he wore it to a game.

Home for the Holidays

We flew out to California to visit with friends and family for Christmas. We started out in my home town area and then went to Andrews home town area and visited people there. Saturday , before Christmas, we went to my dads wood shop while he used his saw mill to cut up a log. Shortly after, we went over to Genoa's in Morro Bay and baked gumdrop cookies. While we were there we watched the lottery Big Spin show with her family. This was funny, because one of the contestants to play for the Big Spin was named Jesus (pronounced Hay-soos) but we were all joking around that Jesus (the religious figure) was gambling and about to spin the Big Wheel. Jesus won about $2 million and we were all rooting Jesus on. This was two days before Christmas, which made it more of a funny Christmas special on Big Spin...I guess you had to be there to laugh about it. Then the Sunday before Christmas Andrew and I went to Emily's where she was cooking Christmas Eve Dinner for her mom and dad. We visited over there for a bit and I helped with making mashed potatos. She is 4 months pregnant now and will soon be finding out if it is a boy or girl. Back at my mom and dads house I left some cookies and milk out for Santa, and a potato for the reindeer. Christmas day I woke up and the plate of cookies and potato was still there. Santa must have been in a hurry, that he did not see the plate or the glass of milk. We opened presents and watched old home videos. Most of these videos had me on camera with a bad hair style, dyed brown and permed! My brother was about 12 years old on these home videos, his voice is before puberty and was funny to hear him speak. Later in the afternoon we headed to Cambria, and visited my aunt, uncle, and cousins. Currently they are living in my grandmas old house while they look to buy a home in the area. It was nice to be at my Grandmas house again, and I liked how warm and cozy my Aunt decorated the house. Across the street was a family of deer laying around in the field. I took a photo of one of the deer.

There were three of us girls in the family, and seven of the guys in the family. Photos below. A photo of Aunt Barbara, my mom, and me. Photo of the guys: Andrew, James, Brian, Jake, Britt, Robert, and Mitch. 3 generations there. We exchanged gifts and headed back to my folks house for Christmas dinner.
The morning after Christmas (Tuesday) we went to the beach. Down at the rock we started out eating lunch and then walked around looking for shells and rocks. Andrew and I on the beach. While we were walking I noticed our shadows and took this photo as a modern family portrait. The shadows are my dad - Mitch, mom - Gail, brother - Robert, and me - Martiel.

Second post pending to talk about the rest of our time in Andrews home town, durring the holiday week.

Gum-Alley SLO, CA

We flew out to California to visit family and friends. We started out with the Morro Bay area visiting my home town, then visiting the Woodland Hills area Andrew's home town. Saturday we landed in San Luis and stopped by the Gum-alley to document some of it. Gum-alley has been around for as long as I can remember. Some people stick gum on the walls spelling out their names or stick coins on there with the gum, etc. Here is where someone spelled out "Emily" I stuck a new penny to some gum.
I figured this Gum-alley will not be here forever, it may be cleaned up some day or one of the two buildings will be torn down and it would be the last of Gum-alley. I have lost track with where all of my gum is stuck through out the years. I could not find my initials I once left but saw neat examples of how creative people get.

Here is a mural made from gum . It is of a guy blowing a big bubble gum. I can not even begin to guess how many packs of gum it took to make this gum mural.

Goofing Around Over the Holidays

Andrew and I were visiting with friends, one who is a Deputy. We visited him while he was still working and he put us in the back seat of the police car. This will be the ONLY TIME we are sitting in a Police car. Just goofing around. I took a photo of Andrew first and he is smiling. Usually people do not smile when they are in the back of a police car. Then Andrew took a photo of me in the back seat and I made the sad face to try to look realistic. I edited the photo to protect the identity of our friend.
